GEORGE NEWS - An illegal dumping site has reared its ugly head in Blanco. According to a reader who submitted photos, the area at the top entrance to Golden Valley from Maitland Street is constantly strewn with rubbish.
"Apart from it being an eyesore, it is a fire and health hazard. Anything goes. Glass, plastic, old clothes, food, garden refuse, paper. It also draws unwanted sakkrappers to the area."
He says he has made numerous phone calls to the municipality and also went in person to complain.
Shortly after the George Herald sent a media query, the bulk of the rubbish was removed. Sadly the clean-up was short-lived. On Tuesday morning, five more black bags and other junk were waiting to be picked up.
