GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - The weekend was off to a busy start for the Firstcare Wildfire Support (FWS) team, that had to deal with two veld fires on Friday 3 April.
"Two of our units attended to a fire on Friday on a farm near Herold's Bay where a baler caught fire and set the surrounding veld alight," said FWS operational director, Christo Theron.
"At the same time two more units were deployed to a fire in Touwsranten near Hoekwil. Once the teams in Herold's Bay were finished they joined the teams who were fighting the fire in Touwsranten."
Municipal firefighters of the George and Garden Route District municipalities also attended to the fire.
"Our crews stood down at 22:00 but the municipal firefighters were still on scene," said Theron. The fire was brought under control by Saturday.
