More weekend arrests
A total of 406 suspects were arrested for various crimes in the Eden District from Thursday 18 November to Sunday morning, 21 November.
According to Southern Cape police spokesperson Capt Malcolm Pojie, 110 additional arrests were made for the contravention of Disaster Management Act Covid-19 regulations.
This weekend's operations included high visibility blue light patrols in crime-stricken areas, roadblocks, stop and search operations with a special focus on drug and liquor outlets, illegal firearms, the tracing of wanted suspects and the confiscation of dangerous weapons.
The confiscation of dangerous weapons during the weekend also contributed to the prevention of serious crime such as murder and assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm, Pojie said.
Combined and integrated operations will continue throughout the festive season with the focus on the 16 Days of Activism campaign that will be rolled out between 25 November and 10 December.
