GEORGE NEWS - An intense cold front hit the southwestern regions of the country on Sunday afternoon and Georgians too had to dig out coats and beanies to ward off the cold from Sunday through yesterday, Wednesday 4 July, when things started to warm up a bit.
Night temperatures in George dropped to as low as 3,6°C on Tuesday night. Before the cold struck, George experienced a warm, albeit windy, Sunday morning with a maximum of 24,9°C and wind gusts of up to 42km/h.
The temperature started to nosedive in the afternoon and the mercury crept up to a maximum of only 11,9°C on Monday and 15,7°C on Tuesday. Yesterday by 12:00, it started to warm up with the temperature hovering between 17°C and 19°C.
The Swartberg mountains were clad in a white coat since Sunday night. During the week, Oudtshoorn had minimum temperatures of between 2,6°C and -1°C (measured on Tuesday night).
Scattered rainfall in George from Friday up until Tuesday measured a total of 10,9mm, according to the South African Weather Service in Cape Town.
Although low night-time temperatures are expected over the next few days, Weather SA forecasts sunny weather and higher day temperatures for the weekend of between 22°C and 24°C.
