WILDERNESS NEWS - The cause of the fire that destroyed the Wilderness home of Claudio Nespola and his wife Magda on Wednesday night, 7 July, has not yet been confirmed.
The Nespolas and their dog, Chino, escaped with their lives after their home in Beacon Road was razed to the ground. They were apparently watching television when they realised their house was on fire.
Nespola owns the popular restaurant Pomodoro in the heart of Wilderness.
According to Johan Crouse of the George Fire Department, a member of the public reported the fire at approximately 22:31 on Wednesday evening. Upon their arrival at the scene the fire was already at an advanced stage. They started fighting the blaze, together with the Garden Route District Municipality fire services, but barely anything could be salvaged.
George Herald has reached out to the family for comment and was asked to contact them on Monday as the investigation into the fire continues.
Fortunately no injuries were sustained.
