GEORGE NEWS - "The DA East Region welcomes the long- and much anticipated report into alleged fraud, maladministration and corruption in the George municipality."

This according to a statement by Jaco Londt MP, East Region Chairperson.

The statement reads:

"The DA East Region welcomes the long- and much anticipated report into alleged fraud, maladministration and corruption in the George municipality. If the report found any politician or official betrayed the trust of voters and abused their position for self enrichment, they must be held accountable and be made an example of to ensure a clear message is send that this is unacceptable.

"The DA prides itself on our track record of good governance and our commitment to service delivery. The allegations of maladministration in George has been damaging for the town and for the party.

"The DA Regional Executive Committee has spoken out on numerous occasions about allegations of fraud and corruption by certain individuals and it is about time those people face the consequences if implicated.

"It is now the responsibility of the George Speaker, Councillor Gerrit Pretorius, to do what is best for the residents of George. Councillor Pretorius must take the report to council and ensure that appropriate action is taken to address any findings in the report.

"Trust has been broken and it is the responsibility of the 53 George councillors to start rebuilding that trust and the brand of the George municipality."
