GEORGE NEWS - The Minister of Finance and Economic Opportunities, Mireille Wenger, will kick off her Tourism Month tour in George, in the Garden Route on Monday, 29 August.
This is ahead of the official start of Tourism Month, on 1 September.
Minister Wenger will be joined by the Premier of the Western Cape, Alan Winde, the Minister of Mobility, Daylin Mitchell and the Mayor of George, Leon Van Wyk.
Tourism is a significant contributor to the provincial economy and supports hundreds of thousands of jobs across the Western Cape.
To highlight the incredible and diverse potential that tourism offers in the Western Cape, this is the first of many visits that Minister Wenger will conduct across the province in celebration of Tourism Month.
The delegation will begin at Wonki Wear pottery which has been in operation for 20 years. They currently employ around 80 people from local communities within the Garden Route, and around George. A visit will then commence to the Redberry Farm, which is also a tourist attraction in the region.
The tour will end at George International Airport, where minister Wenger will receive a briefing on visitor arrivals at the airport. The visitor arrivals have fully recovered to pre-pandemic levels.
