GEORGE NEWSFLASH - The anticipated taxi strike has started this morning, Tuesday 14 August, in Thembalethu.
There is a heavy police presence at the four-way stop and Thembalethu bridge.
A small group of protesters have started throwing stones at police.
The police are controlling the situation by shooting rubber bullets.
Commuters are advised to arrange alternative transport this morning as both taxi's and GO GEORGE buses won't be operational.
Hundreds of commuters, including workers and school children from Thembalethu, are travelling to their destination on foot following the suspension of the taxis.
Some are unable to go to work which can affect their much needed daily wage.
