GEORGE NEWS - Streetlights in Ivory Street in the Tamsui Industria worried a business owner in the area, since these lights were burning day and night for weeks at end.
A team from the Department of Electrotechnical Services checked the lights and found another problem which they fixed. According to Debra Sauer, assistant communications officer at George Municipality, when streetlights are switched on in the day it usually is so that the people who are fixing them can see which ones are not shining.
"But it can happen sometimes that the automatic switch-over function (that switches the lights off in the day) is not reactivated when the work is finished," she said.
"One electrical box usually serves a few streets, so while you may not see people working, they may just be where you cannot see them. However, it shouldn't take more than a day to fix lights in your area, except when a project is being rolled out and several lights are being installed in one area."
If streetlights are on during the day for more than a one-day cycle, or not burning at night, report it during office hours on 044 801 9222 / 044 874 3917 or after hours on 044 801 6300.
Keep in mind that streetlights are fixed on a schedule and it may take a few days before they get to your street.
If the broken lights in your street are not fixed within three days from when it was reported, follow up with a telephone call during office hours.
