GEORGE NEWS - The vehicle that was stolen at gunpoint from a man in the George CBD yesterday morning, Monday 15 August, has been found abandoned near Usave in Hibernia Street.
The victim, a visitor to George, was allegedly accosted by five suspects at a guesthouse in Gloucester Avenue at about 10:00 on Monday morning when he was loading luggage into his car.
According to Southern Cape police spokesperson Capt Malcolm Pojie, police officers found the vehicle, a silver Toyota Corolla, at about midnight last night.
Pojie said the preliminary investigation indicates that the victim was loading his luggage into his vehicle when a firearm was drawn on him.
“He saw five suspicious men standing around him who were speaking in an African language. One of the suspects took his bag and the other his car keys. They all got into the car and drove away.”
No arrests have been made and police ask anyone with information to please contact Sgt Rivaro Balie of the George vehicle theft unit on 044 803 4794 or 082 446 5497. All information will be dealt with confidentially.
