GEORGE NEWS - The last George council meeting on 25 August saw the approval of the adjustment budget and the tabling of the audit committee's (AC) quarterly report.
The adjustment budget deals specifically with rollovers of projects of the previous financial years.
"Although the procurement process has been concluded, in many instances the implementation of the projects has been delayed and this necessitates the rollover of the projects to the 2022/23 capital budget," said Portfolio Councillor for Financial and Strategic Services Dirk Wessels.
The rollover of capital projects from the 2021/22 budget increases the 2022/23 capital budget from R787 983 236 to R802 259 788, which is an increase of R14 276 552.
"Most of these projects fall within the civils department, which equates to about R11m of the total adjustments," said Wessels. "Housing administration, rectification of storm water problems and retaining walls for New Dawn Park also fall within the rollovers that were approved."
The AC's quarterly report speaks to work done by the AC for the last quarter of the 2021/2022 financial year. The AC meets and provides various recommendations to the council.
Chairperson Ewayne le Roux applauded the AC for the work that they do, and how they do it. "George is fortunate to have such a diligent committee contributing their expertise to the municipality."
He said the AC is pleased with the progress made and various successes of the George Municipality during the last quarter of 2021/2022 and encourages management to continue to focus on implementing recommendations by the assurance providers as part of the "clean audit" strategy of the municipality.
