GEORGE NEWS - South African rugby legend Corné Krige is the guest speaker at the awards evening of the George Business Chamber Corporate Cup Golf Day in the Fancourt ballroom on Friday evening, 24 June.
Krige, who was Springbok captain when the Boks beat Italy 101-0, played 39 tests for South Africa - 18 as captain. Born in 1975 in Zambia, Krige now lives in Melkbosstrand with his wife Justine and kids, Sophia, John, and Peter.
He has always had strong ties with the Western Cape as he went to school in Paarl from the age of seven and first played for WP in 1996 before captaining the team, as well as the Stormers, between 1998 and 2004.
The topic of his talk is "Debunking motivation" and it focuses on a very specific game when he captained the Springboks when they lost 53-3. Krige says the team was motivated but this was not enough. Chamber manager Bernadette Schaap does not want to divulge more about the talk, but says she has no doubt everyone will love the former Springbok great's talk and take home many tips.
Krige says it is an honour to be invited to George to share his story. "I would like to thank the sponsor, Absa, and the George Business Chamber for making this possible."
On the day, a shotgun start kicks off play at 11:00 and at the time of going to press on Wednesday afternoon only two four-balls were still available. The cost is R1 500 per player and includes green fees, halfway meal, golf cart seat and the illustrious prize-giving dinner.
The dinner starts at 18:00 and those who would like to attend the dinner, but not play golf, can enjoy the evening with Krige and the golfers at R500 per person.
