GEORGE NEWS - The Thembalethu police are investigating the murder of an alleged robber (28) who was stabbed to death last Wednesday 19 July.
Unathi Dyoyi's body was found with stab wounds to his upper body near the Thembalethu Stadium at about 07:30 by a passer-by. Police suspect he was part of an armed business robbery earlier that morning at Community Cash Store in Zone 7.
It is believed that two men, armed with a knife and firearm, robbed the store and fled with an undisclosed amount of money, snack box, airtime, a loaf of bread, a cellphone, sweets, chocolates and sugar.
The owner of the shop allegedly followed the robbers to the stadium where a fight broke out during which Dyoyi was stabbed. Police found a bag that contained the sugar and sweets near the body.
The other items that had been taken from the shop during the robbery have not yet been recovered.
Captain Malcolm Pojie, the Southern Cape police spokesperson, said they are investigating the circumstances of Dyoyi's death. "We are investigating a case of murder and a case of business robbery. As the investigation unfolds, arrests will be made."
Anyone with information is asked to contact Warrant Officer Binga Jones of the Thembalethu police detectives on 044 802 8934 or 083 271 6315.
