GEORGE NEWS - The trial of Patrick Muller (40), the accused in the 2019 murder of young New Dawn Park mother, Bianca Matroos (26), was expected to get underway in the Circuit High Court in George on Tuesday morning, 2 November.
However, the case was postponed due to death in the family of Muller's legal representative from Cape Town, which left the accused without council.
New council has since been appointed for the accused and the case was scheduled to start this morning, Thursday 4 November.
Muller was arrested on 24 November 2019, a few days after Matroos' body was found in a field at the George Riding Club on 17 November.
According to the police investigation, Matroos was brutally murdered and raped before she was left in the field.
Muller did not bring a bail application and has been in custody since his arrest.
Matroos and her friends were visiting a night club in Pacaltsdorp after which they went to a club in town. She wasn't seen again until her body was found.
The case will serve in front of Honourable Judge Elize Steyn and Adv Evadné Kortje is for the state. At the time of going to print, details about the accused's new legal representative still had to be confirmed.
