GEORGE NEWS - Not even a week since being rescued from certain death, and Dino the Swiss shepherd has found his forever home.
Dino was rescued by Garden Route SPCA (GRSPCA) inspector, Andrea Auerbach, from a house in Maraiskamp on Wednesday 20 May. "We received a call about an injured dog in Maraiskamp.
"When I got to the house I saw Dino walking around in the yard. He was in a terrible state and when I enquired about the reason for his malnourishment and neglect, the owner simply blamed it on lockdown," Auerbach said.
According to her there were two vehicles parked on the property, which is about 2km away from the PDSA and 6km from the GRSPCA offices in the Tamsui industrial area.
"The owner had no excuse. Neglect like this doesn't happen overnight. It's obvious that this poor dog had been suffering for months. The owner didn't want Dino any more and signed him over to us."
Dino suffers from severe case of sarcoptic mange which is highly contagious. This has to be treated and cured before he can go home. He also needs to put on some weight first, but for now he is safe and warm at the GRSPCA where Auerbach and the rest of the staff members are taking great care of him.
GRSPCA theatre assistant, Alta Koekemoer, wasted no time hauling out the treats for Dino when he arrived at the GRSPCA on Wednesday 20 May.
