RealStart, which runs a dedicated programme for post-school youths, says many Grade 12 pupils would not have given much thought to life after school even though it is only a few months away.
According to the CEO of RealStart, Jonathan Stanton-Humphreys, through their extensive work with young people, they have discovered that many often leave it too late when planning for their future after school. "Unless they have the financial means to study further, sadly many young people end up joining the millions of 15 to 24 year olds across the country who are currently not in employment, education or training."
As this is not the future RealStart wants for young people in George, they visited a number of local high schools earlier this year as part of its annual tour to deliver a motivational talk titled 'This Is My Future'.
The talk tackled some of the issues that often prevent young people from achieving the future they hoped for and encouraged them to start thinking seriously about the next step after school.
The organisation itself offers one way for young people to actively pursue a career in the right direction, as well as grow spiritually, mentally, physically and emotionally.
RealStart's year-long youth development programme is open to any young person aged between 17 and 21 with a desire and determination to make something of their lives.
During the first six months, students are developed holistically through daily lectures and one-on-one and group mentorship. They are also empowered to give something back through voluntary work with existing organisations and the development of their own projects designed to uplift their communities and the people within them.
