GEORGE NEWS - The establishment of the Airport Business Park precinct to the east of George Airport has made a start with the launch of a R400m industrial development on the corner of the R404 and R102.
GTX Park is being executed by Spear Real Estate Investment Trust Limited (Spear REIT Limited) over a period of five years and will provide 30 000m² of space for light industrial activities.
Phase one, the installation of bulk infrastructure, started recently.
Spear CEO Quintin Rossi said GTX Park, located on 7,7ha, is the forerunner in the development of the Airport Business Park which will extend over a total of 21ha and will amount to a total investment of R1,2 billion.
A fuel station with a convenience retail complement and additional light industrial facilities are to be developed by Twin City. The third section of the Airport Business Park will feature a complementary development by an investment consortium.
GTX Park will provide warehousing space of up to 10 000m², cold storage, distribution, and other auxiliary industrial activities.
"We are taking a sustainable approach from an energy and water supply perspective and the development will feature water storage and treatment facilities as well as PV solar solutions to reduce dependence on municipal infrastructure. We are already looking at options to wheel surplus electricity into the municipal grid."
He said their investment will have a positive impact on the growth and development of the region.
The Eden District has become an increasingly appealing place to live and work and since their launch they have already seen keen interest from businesses that are not from this area who are looking for an entry point in the local economy.
"The Airport Business Park is an ideal location for businesses looking for strategic positioning with convenient access to transportation routes and key facilities and services. It is fast becoming the midway point between the Eastern and Western Cape, and is only an hour and 40 minutes by air from Johannesburg. This makes it highly accessible and attractive for agri-logistics, oil and gas logistics, residential developments, commercial ventures and call centres."
He also mentioned that George offers a well-managed municipal environment which has fostered real investment in infrastructure and development projects.
