WESTERN CAPE NEWS - In a media statement earlier today, Western Cape premier, Alan Winde, mourned the loss of the Auditor General, Kimi Makwetu.
The premier said "We are deeply saddened by the news of the Auditor General, Kimi Makwetu's passing.
"Kimi was born in Cape Town, and is a son of the Western Cape, having also completed his studies at UCT.
"Over the years, I have worked closely with the AG: we shared a goal which we both took very seriously; to ensure that government delivers on its commitments to the people and does so in a manner which is trustworthy and corruption-free.
"It was a role that he filled with professionalism and which he always pursued with the best interests of South Africans at heart.
"Our discussions were sometimes robust, but we worked very well together, and for that, I thank him from the bottom of my heart. He will be missed by the entire Western Cape Government team.
"We send our deepest condolences to his family, friends and colleagues, particularly those at the Western Cape Office of the Auditor General, at this sad time."
