GEORGE NEWS - Pacaltsdorp Police are yet to arrest someone for the burning of two vehicles in Wilge Street, New Dawn Park, Pacaltsdorp, last week.
An Opel Astra and an Opel Corsa bakkie, belonging to a local businessman in the area, Robert Fako, were set alight at Fako's house, allegedly by arsonists using petrol bombs on Thursday morning, 22 April.
"I went to bed at around 23:00 and was woken up by people screaming and dogs barking," Fako said. "I went outside to investigate and saw people running away. One of them tossed a bottle, presumably containing fuel, towards the Astra that was parked outside my yard. By that time my bakkie, parked inside, and the Astra were on fire."
Luckily for Fako, his neighbours quickly helped put out the flames, before the vehicles were completely destroyed.
"There is a lot of damage that will cost money that I do not have right now. I have a small business that I am trying to get going and that is a big setback," he says.
Fako is offering a R10 000 reward for information that leads to an arrest.
R10 000 reward
Fako is offering a reward of R10 000 for information that leads to an arrest. He says he does not know of anyone who would do such a thing to him and suspects that it is jealousy.
Southern Cape police spokesperson, Capt Malcolm Pojie, confirmed that the investigation into a case of arson is ongoing.
"Forensic experts combed the scene for evidence and seized a bottle that will be subjected to forensic analysis to provide more clues as to what happened. The damage to the vehicles is estimated at about R15 000," he said.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Fako on 079 297 0834 or the Pacaltsdorp Police on 044 803 9106. All information will be treated confidentially.
