GEORGE NEWS - Pacaltsdorp police have opened three cases of assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH) after a fight between two opposing groups of youths yesterday, Wednesday 1 September.
The fight occurred in the bushes adjacent to Memoir Lane in Pacaltsdorp at about 15:00.
According to Southern Cape police spokesperson, Capt Malcolm Pojie, it is believed that the motive could be a robbery earlier in the day when a youngster of one group’s boom box was robbed.
"Later the two groups had a scuffle when they met at the above mentioned address," said Pojie. "It is alleged that they used different blunt and sharp objects to fight each other. Two youths of the one group and another of the opposing group (all about 15 years old) sustained serious injuries. One was hit with a panga against his head, another lost his hand and the third one was stabbed in his lungs."
The boy who lost his hand was transferred to Grootte Schuur Hospital in Cape Town yesterday where emergency surgery was performed. He is currently under observation.
The circumstances surrounding the events are being investigated by Pacaltsdorp detectives. Anyone with information regarding the incident is requested to contact the investigation officer, WO William van Schalkwyk, at the Pacaltsdorp Police detective branch on 044 803 9100 or on 079 894 1589.
