GEORGE NEWS - Monochrome set the tone among the George Camera Club's September winners, which also exhibit impressive definition and clarity.
Junior Open: Lorraine Blackwell - Rugby Spirit
This photo shows Glenwood House's school spirit and support for their Open rugby side. Raynard Stammer, captain of the side, leads his team onto the field. As it was an overcast day, I shot this photo at ISO 1100 at 1/800 sec at f / 3.5 with a Nikon D5500 and a 70 - 200mm lens.
Junior Nature: Amanda Whiteman - Itching
This was taken on an overcast day, which helped that the lighter feathers of the bird didn't show burn-out. I used f-stop 5,6 and shutter speed 1/640th of a second. ISO 500.
Senior Nature: Ian Brown - Snack Time
The image was taken at Silver Salmon Creek, which is situated on the western shores of Cook Inlet in south-central Alaska. The image was taken at the end of July, just before the start of autumn. It is during this period that the brown bears, who are waiting for the salmon spawning season to start, spend their time digging for clams during low tide. In the image the mother bear has taken some time out from clamming to feed her cubs.
The image was taken with a Nikon D4, 600mm Nikon lens, ISO 800, f16, 1/320s, -2/3 ev.

Theme Panorama: Lorraine Blackwell - Jet trail over du Dru
This photo was shot in Chamonix, France. Aiguille du Dru is the name of the highest peak in this photo, the needle-like shape and its distinctive grey section on its face caused by a few rock falls.
In colour this photo doesn't look like much, but the intense blue sky, dark mountains and white snow make a stunning black and white photo.
The photo was shot with a Nikon D5500 and a 16-80mm lens at 30mm to get the span of the surrounding range. It was cropped at a 2:1 ratio to give it a panorama look.
The other settings are ISO 100, 1/125 sec at f / 9.
