GEORGE NEWS - One person died and another is in hospital in a critical but stable condition, after a retaining wall on a building site in Herold’s Bay came loose.
The incident happened around 10:00 this morning. The deceased and injured person both worked on the site. Apparently, they were working when the wall and sand came down on them.
The other workers dug them up and began CPR until emergency services arrived.
ER24 was first on the scene, but needed additional help. Paramedics had to negotiate around a very steep and narrow embankment. Metro Search and Rescue services soon too arrived to assist. CPR was continued on the one male patient, but he was declared dead on scene.
The second patient was treated and transported to George Provincial Hospital.
Feedback from the police is being awaited. George Herald can't confirm their employers at this stage.
