GEORGE NEWS - If you want to hear how Wilderness neighbour Nelson Mandela University (NMU) is focused on being a world-class knowledge catalyst through cutting-edge research and teaching, and competitive innovation and entrepreneurship, save the date 13 July.
Dr Kaluke Mawila, the campus principal, will explore these challenges in the context of a greener economy and greater sustainability.
At NMU, these concepts are not buzzwords. Rather, they guide plans and decisions.
A successful higher education institution will of course teach students to master a subject, but will also assure that its teachers, leaders, and students are involved with the greater community, in this case the Garden Route population, environment, and economy.
With outstanding professional experience and several academic achievements, including her doctorate in Higher Education from the University of Michigan, Mawila has been leading the Mandela University: George Campus in new directions since March 2020.
Before her Mandela University appointment, Mawila held senior executive positions at the National Research Foundation. She has extensive work experience in the higher education sector as a researcher and an administrator.
Mawila is currently the chairperson of the FOREST21 Advisory Board and a member of the advisory panel for the South African Institute of Aquatic Biodiversity.
Mawila will share her vision of campus academics and strategies, departments and faculty, research and international relations, student composition and changes coming to the campus - all in the context of sustainable futures. The audience will have ample opportunity for a Q&A.
Arranged by the Wilderness Ratepayers and Residents Association, this talk is being held at the Wilderness Hotel on Wednesday 13 July, 18:00 for 18:30.
Entrance fee: R10 for WRRA members, R20 for non-members. For further details, contact John Miller at jdmiller@cloudnetworks.co.za.
