GEORGE NEWS - The two new senior officials appointed at George Municipality from 1 January 2021 are looking forward to their new challenges.
Dr Michele Gratz has been appointed as the new Acting Municipal Manager and Alan Paulse as Acting Director of Community Services.
The decision was taken last Friday, 11 December, during a special council meeting closed to the public and media.
In the interim, Director of Protection Services Steven Erasmus will hold the reins as acting municipal manager and Shanold Marillac, senior manager of community services, will act as the department's director until 31 December.
Gratz said she is looking forward to addressing some of the service delivery challenges that George is facing. "This is being compounded by the present Covid crisis. It is going to be tough, but I am fully committed to try and make a difference to the residents of George," she said.
With 18 years' experience as municipal manager, Paulse too is optimistic about the new chapter in his career: "I look forward to building on the good work that has been done in the directorate.
"I would like to address the challenges and see where I can make improvements. I'm excited to be working with the George colleagues," he said.
Gratz is a resident of George and has worked at George Municipality for 12 years before serving as municipal manager at Mossel Bay Municipality for seven years. "She is eminently qualified and meets the prescribed competency requirements for the position," said municipal spokesperson Chantel Edwards-Klose.
