GEORGE NEWS - A historic black economic empowerment partnership between the Jeda Foundation and Cape Estates Outeniqua (Pty) Ltd will see the creation of a multi-million rand futuristic education campus in George.
The aim of the project is to advance human progress through the advancement of artificial intelligence, robotics, machine learning, fabrication, coding, big data, automation and renewable energy.
This is an additional project to the tertiary facilities planned at the Garden Route Dam.
A statement by the foundation reads that at the advent of the fourth industrial revolution several years ago, Jeda Foundation president Quinton Johnson created a diamond bursary fund for the brightest indigent university students from the Southern Cape.
"At that time, he met the chairman and philanthropist Fred de Kock, owner of Cape Estates Outeniqua, who immediately supported the initiative. This changed the lives of all recipients in pursuit of their dreams. Now the duo are embarking on a further noble endeavour for the children of the Southern Cape and beyond."
Cape Estates Outeniqua will contribute nearly 30 hectares of prime property at their old sawmill site, along the N2 highway next to the Outeniqua Family Market, for developing the Jeda Foundation's initiative to establish a futuristic education campus. It is envisaged that state-of-the-art lecture halls, laboratories, offices, studios, auditoriums, centres, residences as well as a business and school precinct will incrementally be developed to unlock the amazing value of the digital revolution for the benefit of our people.
"Earlier this year, leaders from the municipality, education, business, sport, faith and parliamentary sectors gathered to discuss the extensive George City plans to establish a new university at their proposed main campus around the Garden Route Dam. Our aim is to develop the new education campus together with the City to complement their university initiative and create a place where humanity and technology meet for a better world," reads the statement.
The Jeda Foundation is a non-profit, leadership, education and development trust that has served thousands of beneficiaries in our communities over many years, and is based in George.
Cape Estates Outeniqua (Pty) Ltd is a property development company offering residential, retirement and commercial services, which has built close to 1 000 homes in George.
