GEORGE NEWS - Misty Schultz has been selected as a finalist in the 2020 Mrs Africa Classic Continental Pageant, one of the biggest and most challenging fund-raising pageants on the continent.
Ten finalists have been selected out of 150 entries in her division.
The competition is part of the Africa Pageants Foundation and is organised annually by Pageants SA CEO Carolyn Baldwin-Botha.
"The Africa Pageants Foundation is a powerful platform from where I can make a difference in the lives of women on the African continent who often live in and face horrific conditions. Africa Pageants supports the African Queen Foundation, a project that provides surgical procedures for women living with endemic goitre or fistula conditions in remote and war-ridden areas," says Schultz.
The African Queen Foundation also distributes reusable sanitary wear for underprivileged girls and women via charity organisations in Africa. "My part in this enormous effort is to help women in my own area, the Western Cape. To this end I need to raise funds as well as supplies of preferably washable, re-usable sanitary wear," says Schultz.
"I was entered in this pageant by people who know me and who believe that I can make a difference, as I have in other charity pageants where I was able to help abandoned and abused women and children, safe houses and schools, and newborn babies without clothing. I want to bring hope, love and care to those in need but I cannot do this without the public's help and donations. They have been extremely supportive in the past, and I trust that I can once again rely on kind-hearted Georgians to open their hearts and hands."
Last week, Schultz kicked off her charity drive by handing out gift packs to the men and women of the George Night Shelter where she held a motivational talk and handed out 130 gift packs.
The George Fire Brigade also received a visit from her and she handed out gift packs to the men and women who so often put their lives on the line for the public. Schultz also visited a cancer sufferer in the last stages of the illness with a generous gift pack.
"The public of George have been so supportive in my previous charity drives and I'm counting on them again to please come forward with donations. There is a big need in our community," said Schultz. Donations of items such as pet food, clothes, toys, and stationery for school kids are welcome.
If you can assist, phone Schultz on 044 873 5046 or 076 101 5425.
The prestigious final pageant week and gala event is set to take place in December. The venue is to be announced soon.
