GEORGE NEWS - A man who handed himself over to the police after his wife died due to multiple stab wounds at a guest house in George, will make his next court appearance in George on Tuesday 6 June.
The accused, Andrew Fleming (41), was arrested on a charge of murder on Thursday 27 April after he allegedly stabbed his wife, Karen (52), to death at their accommodation in Aspeling Street.
According to Southern Cape police spokesperson Sgt Chris Spies, Fleming reported the incident at the George Police Station shortly after it happened.
George police officers were dispatched to the scene at about 09:50. On arrival they found the victim with multiple stab wounds in a bedroom. She was declared dead by medical personnel on the scene and the man was arrested.
Fleming made his first court appearance on Tuesday 2 May and remains in custody. He indicated that he will not be applying for bail.
The motive for this brutal killing could not be confirmed and, according to Spies, forms part of the ongoing investigation.
According to a source close to George Herald, the Flemings are originally from the Eastern Cape. They moved to George where Andrew was apparently the owner of a local solar panel business in George.
The owner of the guest house said he is not currently in a position to comment. "My wish is that the police are given a chance to do their job, then we take it from there."
