GEORGE NEWS - The Fidelity Services Group guard who was shot and killed during an armed robbery in the Knysna CBD on Saturday 26 June, was from George. Charnel Hattingh, the group's head of marketing and communications, did not want to disclose the identity of the deceased.
According to national police spokesperson, Colonel Brenda Muridili, the robbery took place mid-morning, at approximately 09:45 when two security guards were collecting cash from a supermarket in Woodmill Lane shopping centre in Long Street.
"Information gathered on scene indicates that the driver was inside the vehicle when his partner returned," Muridili said. "He heard a noise and when he went to investigate saw two men fleeing with the cash. He found his partner fatally wounded."
The suspects fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money.
