GEORGE NEWS - Do you know someone who gives to our city without compensation, making a positive contribution to our community with compassion as well as passion?
If so, this person could be the next George Good Citizen of the Month or even the Citizen of the Year.
The 2020 search for the top residents in George kicked off this month and the hunt for the February Good Citizen is in full swing.
Now in its second year, the initiative recognises deserving citizens who walk the extra mile to make George a better place.
The proactive civilian association We Are George, together with Eden Lions and George Herald, as well as the newspaper's holding company community initiative GET (Group Editors Together), drive and promote the search for the very best citizens of George.
Last year the September 2019 Good Citizen of the month, Colleen Smith, founder of Odin, received the award as the first George Good Citizen of the Year during the lights festival in Unity Park in December.
Nominate and vote
The monthly George Good Citizen is determined via public vote on Facebook, and each winner receives R1 000 cash.
At the end of 2020 Georgians will choose one of these winners as George Good Citizen of the Year. Get involved by nominating and by voting.
Add yourself to the George Good Citizens Award Facebook page to nominate and vote. Nominations can also be sent to nominations@wearegeorge.co.za.
Information regarding the rules, the criteria as well as the nomination and voting processes are available on Facebook.
