GEORGE NEWS - George Municipality hosted the first joint Ward Committee meeting with provincial sector departments on Tuesday 21 November.
The objective was for councillors and ward committee members to gain an improved understanding of the various sector departments, including their core business, current and future investments within the municipal jurisdiction and specific responses to previously identified priorities.
Some of the sector departments present were the Provincial Department of Social Development, Agriculture, Education, Human Settlements, and Health, as well as the National Department of Water and Sanitation. Representatives from the departments assisted in responding to priorities falling outside the municipal mandate.
George municipal directors and councillors were also present to assist with any queries. Manager of the Integrated Development Plan, Dr Sandile Ngqele, said the meeting was part of the first round of public participation towards the annual review of the five-year (2017-2022) IDP.
Representatives of various provincial departments attended the meeting. The objective of the meeting was for councillors and ward committee members to gain an improved understanding of the sector departments.
