GEORGE NEWS - Keith Jordaan has been re-appointed as George Municipality's Chief Financial Officer.
He loves the outdoors and motorcycles and enjoys the beauty of the Outeniqua mountains.
In your term as director, what has been some of the biggest challenges you faced?
The biggest daily challenge is to deliver services to the community. As we must interact with people it is not always easy.
However, I think we are doing well. We understand that people have a need to be serviced or want to achieve something in life.
Even though I am a positive person, I have endured and have learned from many negative experiences.
I must say that one of my biggest challenges that I have faced in my current position is to manage change.
People are generally averse to change. But we are getting there in this organisation.
What helped you get through that rough period?
I love adventure motorbiking and after a tank or two of petrol all stress built up over the week would be relieved.
I also enjoy amateur landscape photography when I am able to get out with the camera in my hands and do it.
I feel strongly about getting things done right, but with age I have learned to let things go, a bit. (Ha ha)
Mention a few highlights that made the year worthwhile
My reappointment was a definite highlight as I felt that my work was not complete yet. My son Nicholas obtaining his B. Accounting Honours and my daughter Chanel, having met the love of her life a while ago, getting married recently, have made the year worthwhile.
Name a few things you are looking forward to in the new year
Buying a new motorbike and travelling through the Karoo (Great, Little and Tankwa), Cederberg and Western Cape along gravel roads.
Weekend getaways with my wife and (her) Jeep, doing photography and documenting the Karoo before it is fracked away.
Helping the mayor and Council achieve our strategic goals and purpose at George Municipality.
Chilling more with family and friends and trying not to take life so seriously… hmmm
What puts a spring in your step at work?
Achieving your goals and making people happy. Oh yes, and payday.
What challenges do you foresee for 2018?
None more than in the past (2017). Getting things done during these trying economic times.
We (George Municipality) know where we want to be and need to focus on achieving that which we know is possible and need to achieve as an organisation.
What are your new year's plans with your family/friends?
To lose weight, Pwhaha!! To be happy together, to have good health and love each other as we do!!
When you get home after a long day … what puts a smile to your face?
Looking up to the beautiful George mountains. And knowing that I am so privileged to be able to live in one of the most beautiful places of the world.
Do you have a pet? If yes, what is it and what are their names? If no, why not?
I love animals, especially horses, had a few, (love the American Saddle breed). We currently have a Yorkie Chucky (very naughty, mom's pet, spoilt rotten and gets more attention than Dad).
If you could table a motion in Council, what would it be?
World peace, love and understanding, respect, tolerance and to go through life with a sense of humour.
Any New Year's resolutions?
To travel, to explore and enjoy life. To Live without Limits.
