GEORGE NEWS - Delegates from National Treasury had an oversight visit on 6 and 7 November 2017 to the George Municipality’s Infrastructure Skills Internship (ISDG) programme.
The George municipality has been participating in this programme since 2012/13 budget year.
The first phase of the ISDG Internship was successfully concluded in March and the second phase started in March.
The ISDG Internship is in line with the National Development Programme and National Governments strategy to address scarce skills in the Built environment, youth unemployment, Built Capacity in municipalities.
The ISDG Internship programme is over a period of three years and the interns in the Civil, Electrical and Town Planning engineering fields are given practical in-service training and mentoring in terms of “The Road to Registration” programme with the respective built environment Statutory Councils.
The George Municipality has interns in the Civil Engineering and Chemistry, Electrotechnical and Town Planning Built environment fields.
In the first phase 90% of the interns were successfully registered with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) as professional Technicians and Technologists respectively and have been employed by various Engineering Consultancies and Municipalities.
