GEORGE NEWS - A gruesome scene awaited Garden Route SPCA (GRSPCA) inspector, Henrico Pypers when he was called out to Thembalethu at approximately 17:00 on Monday afternoon, 29 March.
He says a member of the public phoned the GRSPCA to report a horse that was unable to walk.
"When I arrived on the scene in Zone 7 the mare was lying on the ground in a pool of mud. Both her hind legs where cut at the hocks, as if someone wanted to hack off her legs. She was unable to move. It was terrible to see her trying to get up. I unfortunately had to humanely euthanise her," he said.
According to Pypers no one has come forward to claim the horse and there is very little information available as to what had happened to the poor animal.
If anyone has any information regarding the incident they are asked to contact the GRSPCA on 044 878 1990.
