GEORGE NEWS - The annual Hoekwil Open Gardens, once again supported by Lew Geffen Sotheby’s International Realty George and Wilderness, takes place this coming weekend, Saturday and Sunday, 2 and 3 November, with 10 extraordinary gardens on display to the public.
This is Hoekwil’s 6th Open Gardens event, which has grown from strength to strength each year, attracting visitors from across the Garden Route.
The town and farm gardens on display offer something for everyone, from lush pastoral meadows, to the “quaint and quirky”, wonderfully wild and formally manicured. Indigenous forest, fynbos, aloes, flowering shrubs, succulents and many different roses are all showcased against magnificent mountain, lake and/or sea-view backdrops.
Refreshments will be available at the eateries in the village, as well as at several of the gardens.
Three local nurseries will also be open to the public and a local artist, Rosanne Whittle, will be exhibiting her work.
Entrance is R50 per person (children free) and provides access over both days, from 09:00 to 16:00. Tickets are available on both days from the Open Gardens kiosk outside the Hoekwil post office and all proceeds will be for the benefit of Alzheimer’s Southern Cape and the Seven Passes Initiative. For your comfort, viewing is best enjoyed at a leisurely pace and with comfortable shoes.
