GEORGE NEWS - Janique Gerber, a resident of Hoekwil and head girl of Langenhoven High School in Riversdale, has been selected as a semi-finalist in the 2018 Miss High School SA pageant.
Janique is flying the flag high for George, as she is one of only 24 semi-finalists to have been selected for the contest out of hundreds of entries received from high schools across the country.
Janique says she is honoured to have been selected for this pageant, which has the power to do a lot of good among young high school girls in South Africa. "I'm very excited to be selected as a semi-finalist and hope to make a difference in my community through the opportunity that this competition is offering," she says.
"The pageant aims to send out a positive message of empowering young women, including at community level, which is something that is close to my heart. If you are given an opportunity to do something to help others, you must do it. It is up to us as the younger generation to be the change we want to see in the world."
The bubbly 18-year-old with a lust for life and a keen interest to uplift others is equally passionate about healthy living, and enjoys hockey, beauty and fashion. She is known among her peers as being a positive role model. Her personal motto is: "In a world where you can be anything, be yourself".
The Miss High School pageant is aimed at identifying bright, young individuals who will be ambassadors to represent high school students in South Africa in various initiatives, the main being the Girl Power Foundation (www.girlpowerfoundation.co.za).
The objective of the pageant is to empower young girls through participating in charity work, which helps build their social awareness, sense of responsibility, confidence and leadership skills.
Each semi-finalist is required to raise R2 000 towards the pageant and The Girl Power Foundation, either by getting sponsorship or through fundraising initiatives.
Voting lines will open in September. The pageant is organised and hosted by GEES! Entertainment (www.geesent.com). The crowning will be held later this year in Johannesburg.
