Touchies teams and flag sprinting participants gathered early in the day to register for the days’ sport action. A total of 16 teams registered to participate in the Powerade touch rugby tournament with Team Raptors beating the Brakkies in an epic final game.
Various flag sprinting races provided fast paced action in the Wellness World flag pursuit. The crowds constantly and enthusiastically cheered and got behind their favorite competitors. Local lifesaver Stefan Pauw outsprinted Arian Wessels and Ruan Meyer into 2nd and 3rd in a final that saw an enthusiastic Mexican Wave doing its rounds.
Pasella presenter Dieter Voigt, 2007 Mr. South Africa and a special ‘friend’ who accompanied him treated the crowds and handed out signatures. This special guest was none other than TygerBear, a big fluffy bear. Dieter cycled all the way from Cape Town over six days stopping over at various towns along the way to raise funds for the TygerBear Foundation which reaches out to abused kids and families. The Herolds Festival was his final stop and the festival helped raise money for this charity.
Youngsters also had their turn to amuse the crowds when they took part in the Mej. Seesterretjie and Mnr. Spiertjies competitions. The youngsters, some a little shy, amused the crowds with their humorous comments. The beach ministry team of the Bergsig NG Church entertained the kids by presenting various fun activities. The winner of Mej Seesterretjie was Inge Lampbrecht (7) and Francois Anker (8) walked away with the title of Mnr. Spiertjies.
The showstopper of the Festival was undoubtedly the Miss Bikini rounds in which twenty beauties took to the ramp to strut their stuff, much to the enjoyment of the crowd. Ten finalists were chosen at the beach, who later that evening participated in the finals at the after-party at Plush which was presented by Dieter Voigt. The beautiful Liandè Naude from Pretoria was crowned as Miss Herold’s Bay Bikini 2009. The 1st Princess title went to Chinique Meiring and the 2nd Princess was Mariska van Driel.
