GEORGE NEWS - A business owner in Cathedral street in the George CBD says he is fed up with the crime in the area, especially their street. This comes after his business has fallen victim to burglars twice in the last two months.
"Last month the batteries from our gate motor were stolen and in the early hours of Sunday morning, 4 July, our ADSL and telephone cables were removed from the box outside the building.
"We still don't have a telephone line or internet," the business owner said earlier this week.
The business is one of many in the vicinity of the so-called 'drug house' in Cathedral Street that regularly fall victim to crime in the area.
On CCTV footage taken on the night of the most recent incident, four men can be seen walking from the direction of the house to the targeted business where they tamper with what is believed to be the box containing telephone and ADSL cables on the outside of the building.
"That yard is becoming a nest for druggies and thieves," said the business owner, who wishes to remain anonymous.
Another business owner in the area said vehicles parked outside are regular targets. "They smash the light covers and take the bulbs. Apparently it's used to smoke tik," she said.
According to George police communi-cations officer, Captain Nolonwabo Tshengu, they are investigating the incidents and anyone with information is asked to contact Sgt Jeremy Petersen on 044 803 4714/5.
