GEORGE NEWS - George Municipality is amending the current by-law for Liquor Trading Days and Hours and has advertised a notice requesting feedback from the public.
People who would like to make an input, must take action as soon as possible because time is running out.
Feedback is required to reach Lee-Anne Meiring, Community Safety, PO Box 19, George, 6530 or via e-mail with subject line "Comment to Liquor Trading by-law" to lameiring@george.gov.za and copied to post@george.gov.za before Monday 12 February.
According to a statement of the George Municipality, any person who is unable to write can submit their input verbally to the council's offices where they will be assisted by a staff member to put their comments in writing. Enquiries can be directed to Ms Lee-Anne Meiring on 044 801 6350.
The amended by-law deals with the trading days and hours during which the holder of a liquor licence may sell liquor and for related matters.
The draft by-law notice has been published in George Herald, on the municipal website and municipal social media sites.
The amended by-law document is available on the municipal website. www/george.gov.za. Search "GM Bylaw Liquor Trading Days Hours" to download the document. Copies have also been placed at all public libraries in George and at the Law Enforcement offices in Cathedral Street.
The proposals in the amended by-law include amendments regarding trading days and hours for licensed businesses:
- Licensed for the micro-manufacture and sale of liquor for consumption both on and off the premises where liquor is sold: cellars, wine makers, home distillers
Consumption on the premises: Monday to Sunday: 08:00 to 02:00 (next day)
Consumption off the premises: Monday to Saturday: 09:00 to 20:00
Sunday: 09:00 to 17:00 - Retail sale of liquor for consumption on the premises where the liquor is being sold: house taverns
Monday to Thursday:10:00 to 22:00
Friday and Saturday: 10:00 to 24:00
Sunday and Religious Public Holidays (Christmas and Good Friday): 12:00 to 20:00 - Places of entertainment, restaurants, accommodation establishments and hotels (excluding house taverns)
Monday to Saturday: 10:00 to 02:00 (next day)
Sunday and religious public holidays (Christmas and Good Friday): 10:00 to 23:00
Casinos: 24 hours per day - Licensed liquor outlets including bottle stores and house taverns for consumption off the premises where the liquor is being sold:
Monday to Saturday: 09:00 to 20:00
Sunday: 09:00 to 17:00
