GEORGE NEWS - Arriving at Fancourt on Saturday, guests at the George Mayoral Gala were whisked off to the venue on the estate in true James Bond Spectre style.
A variety of sporty BMWs sponsored by the local BMW dealership Lynn Schroeder and driven by chauffeurs dressed in tuxedos and short pyjama pants added style and humour.
The event serves as a fundraiser for the George Municipality Charitable and Relief Fund. The George Herald was the media sponsor.
Frosted drinks, champagne and music from the Pacaltsdorp band Prerogative kept guests entertained and in a social mood.
In his speech George Mayor Charles Standers thanked the community and businesses for their valuable support. He explained the importance of the Charitable and Relief Fund, giving examples where huge differences were made in people's lives. "I am only one person, I cannot change the world. But I can change the world of one person," he said.
