GEORGE NEWS - Police are searching for an unknown group of suspects after two Fidelity security guards were robbed of their firearms on Wednesday morning, 3 March.
According to Southern Cape police spokesperson, Sgt Chris Spies, the security guards were allegedly filling up their vehicle at the Caltex garage on the corner of Discovery and York streets in the industrial area just before 06:00 when they were accosted by the group.
"The men took the firearms and fled the scene in a white Toyota Fortuner. Detectives are currently combing the scene for clues," Spies said. Nothing else was taken during the incident and no injuries were reported.
Fidelity confirmed the attack on their vehicle. "The Fidelity CIT vehicle was stationary at the service station when they were approached by seven armed suspects," said CEO Wahl Bartmann.
"Fortunately, there were no injuries and no cash loss. The suspects fled the scene in a white Toyota Fortuner. We know that syndicates perpetrating these kinds of crimes are highly skilled and organised.
"We are constantly evolving our technology and changing our procedures to ensure we stay one step ahead of the criminals and we have an excellent working relationship with the police."
