HESSEQUA NEWS - Mopping up operations have been going on throughout the night.
The fire is currently not out of control, neither 100% under control as some inaccessible areas are still active.
8 Firefighters from the Garden Route District Municipality's Fire & Rescue Services with 4 vehicles as well as various crew and vehicles from the Hessequa Municipality Fire Services were in attendance throughout the night.
Activities concentrated on mopping up duties.
A small house, a caravan and 3 sheds remain the only structures lost during the wildfire thus far.
The objective for today, 18 December, between 07:00 - 19:00, is to deploy 3 Working on Fire Ground teams spread on all 4 fire flanks for aggressive mopping up procedures and 12 Garden Route DM firefighters with vehicles to extinguish all active firelines.
Hessequa Municipality Firefighters will assist in safeguarding structures.
The structures were damaged in the fire.
Firefighting efforts will continue throughout the day.
Any available farmers and Farm watch resources will also be utilized.
The affected family remained in their property in their main house overnight.
Weather conditions are cool, with a very slight drizzle earlier. The wind conditions stay unpredictable and could pose to be the biggest challenge.
We are awaiting updates from Bitou, GRDM Kannaland, MTO on fires in Garcia Pass, Hoeko, Craggs that burned yesterday.
