GEORGE NEWS - The Sector Police Forum of George was officially launched today, 25 September, starting with Sector 1, which includes all businesses. They will be the first responders to the scene, says chairman Jeff Lester.
A WhatsApp group that includes most of the businesses in George is already in place.
"Here they can let us know about anything, from crime-related incidents to accidents, and we will respond,” he says.
There are 11 zones that need patrolling, and they need volunteers to give of their time and expertise. “If we can get 22 people, each zone will have two people responsible for patrolling that area. This is thus also a call for people to join us.”
Lester says they hope to help prevent crime, not get there after it has happened. The SPF will work hand in hand with the police, traffic and law enforcement.
