GEORGE NEWS - Vigilant members confiscated drugs with an estimated street value of R40 000 and an unlicensed firearm in separate incidents in George on Wednesday 14 July.
According to Southern Cape police spokesperson, Sgt Chris Spies, George police rapidly responded to a shooting incident at a house in Hope Street on Wednesday.
“On arrival they found a person with a gunshot wound on the floor. A further search of the premises resulted in the discovery of a 9mm pistol and nine rounds of ammunition. The police confiscated the items and arrested two suspects, aged 24 and 26, on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. They are also facing a charge of attempted murder,” he said.
The victim was transported to hospital.
In another incident on Wednesday night, members of the Eden Cluster Crime Combatting Team reacted on information and pounced on a house in Lawaaikamp at approximately 22:30, armed with a search warrant.
“A thorough search of the premises resulted in the confiscation of 780 Mandrax tablets which were stashed in a yellow bucket in the bedroom. The police arrested two suspects, a 26-year-old woman and a 25-year-old man, on a charge of dealing in drugs,” said Spies.
All arrested remain in custody. They are scheduled to appear in the local courts once charged.
