GEORGE NEWS - Thinus Louw and his family moved to George two months ago. He has opened his own legal firm.
"We have been wanting to make the move since 2019, but the Covid impact delayed our plans. The lifestyle that George offers, the environment, the almost-city or 'still-town-but-with-luxuries' character of George were all attractive to us," he says.
The family is renting a home before buying so as to get to know the neighbourhoods first.
The number of available properties dropped fast during last year. He came down to George twice to find a property and in November he was able to view only six homes - much less than earlier in the year.
Among the factors that attracted them to the area are the relative lower number and severity of violent crimes, being closer to family in the Garden Route and Eastern Cape, as well as the municipality being better managed.
"The stable growth of the Garden Route, and especially George, over the last few years was a big plus. I believe there are a lot of opportunities for growth and development."
