GEORGE NEWS - The George Camera Club winning images for June are once again examples of excellent photography.
All the photographers consented to placement of their photos in the George Herald.

This photo is of the peak in the Mont Blanc range called Le Dru, which overlooks the ski valley of Chamonix in France, taken in April this year. I particularly liked this peak, as it towers over nearby formations and has a suspended glacier to the left, where the powder snow always blows off and makes for a most dramatic image. As the peak is a triangle, I shot the photo in portrait with the peak placed to the right to emphasize this. This sort of mountain photography is almost always more dramatic in monochrome, so I did the conversion in post-photo processing. It was shot with a Nikon D5500 at 1/200 sec; f / 9, at 100 ISO and 70mm.

This photo is of the Glenwood House under 15 rugby boys playing against McLachlan High School in Joubertina earlier this year. The Glenwood prop was tackled, but decided to take his opposition down with him in spectacular form, never letting go of the ball. The angle of the McLachlan tackler makes an unusual rugby shot and the field is quite dusty, which adds to the action. The photo was shot with a Nikon D5500 at 1/1250 sec , f / 2.8, at ISO 100 and 150mm.
Sometimes you are just very lucky. I woke up in our Vleesbaai holiday home and the early morning sun was streaming in through the window. The moth was sitting on the door of the wardrobe facing the sun. What struck me immediately was the shadow. I slowly got up so as not to disturb the moth, fetched my camera and tripod and made a couple of exposures before the moth took off. Camera: Leica R9 with digital DMR back. Lens: Apo-Macro-Elmarit 100mm/f2,8.
I was out early one morning on the banks of the Ganges river in Varanasi when a small rowing boat appeared in the mist. The locals on the boat were feeding the Siberian gulls. The gulls were migrating southward.
The photo was taken with a Fujifilm XT2 camera at 1/3200 sec.
The image of vultures feasting on a gemsbok carcass was taken on
24 April in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park near the Rooiputs waterhole. The camera used was a Nikon D750 with a Nikon 500 F/4 telephoto lens. The image was captured in Raw format at 1/1000 of a second with an aperture setting of f/10 and ISO of 640.
The image was processed using Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop.
