GEORGE NEWS - Rosemoor Sport Stadium has been outfitted as a temporary shelter. Currently, 30 persons are housed in the clubhouse and 43 more in the sporting arena, where security and provisions are being supplied.
The George Night Shelter continues to accommodate its maximum number of persons allowed.
George Department of Social Services has issued a registration form for the public, NGOs and companies to register their willingness to donate non-perishable items and goods that can be redistributed to the vulnerable communities and homeless persons.
Individual communication will ensue after registration. A mechanism for the collection of these items will be in place.
Soup kitchens
The Department of Social Development administration offices are closed during lockdown. The municipality continues to support 130 municipal soup kitchens, where strict social distancing and hygienic practices apply.
The municipality is working with the Western Cape Department of Social Development to address matters arising with people living on the streets.
