GEORGE NEWS - The Community Development section initiates campaigns, targeting unemployed youth and women with job creation and further education opportunities, including awareness of the dangers of substance abuse.
Awareness sessions with regards to AIDS/HIV, wellness, TB, STDs and more are also done regularly by the Community Development Department as indicated below.
- Skills Development programmes (HIV and AIDS support groups)
- Parent and Child programme
- Assistance at clinics, schools and NGOs (TB room and tracing of defaulters, sorting chronic medication for patients, screening and women wellness)
- Exhibitions (South Cape College, NMU and U-Save)
- HCT campaign (HIV counselling and testing campaign)
- Wellness programmes (ECD, Youth and HIV/AIDS)
- People Living on the Street (reunification, employment, application for identity documents)
- Aftercare sessions and monitoring 23 municipal creches
- 145 nutritional centres
