GEORGE NEWS - A 27-year-old man was arrested on Sunday 15 October in connection with the murder of an off-duty fireman (33) in Borcherds on the same day.
According to Southern Cape police spokesperson Sgt Chris Spies, initial information indicates that the victim was accosted while he was closing the gate to the entrance of his home in Bruce Street at about 05:20.
The victim, who sustained stab wounds to his neck and back during what is believed to be an attempted robbery, managed to get into his vehicle and attempted to drive himself to hospital.
On his way to hospital, he allegedly lost consciousness and crashed into a house in Krogh Street. He was transported to hospital by ambulance where he was declared dead on arrival.
The suspect, who is facing a murder charge, is in police custody and is expected to appear in the George Magistrate’s Court tomorrow, Tuesday 17 October.
Investigation into the matter continues.
