Update
GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - The Outeniqua Pass remains open, critical areas are being assessed by the District Road Engineer for the possibility of landslides and soil erosion.
Motorists in Outeniqua Pass are warned to proceed with caution and be aware of possibility of falling rocks and trees following fires and gale winds.
The N2 at Tsitsikamma is also open.
Montagu Pass remains closed.
STATUS OF GEORGE FIRES
In the immediate George area there are teams continuing with mopping up of fire lines.
The public to please note there will be periodic flareups and continuous smouldering fires creating smoke.
The Garden Route Disaster Management Centre is continuously monitoring and tracking all fires in the Southern Cape. Ground teams are maintaining the perimeters of critical areas.
Power Outages:
Hoekwil power restored. Currently no residential areas without power.
Please report any low voltage faults to 044 801 6300 after hours and 044 8019 2202/9222 during working hours.
Cooler temperatures for today, 30% chance of rain in George and Wind direction Southerly.
Aerial Support:
Aerial support has been redeployed to focus on areas where needed and are working with George.
Resources:
Currently over 593 resources available in the field throughout the district.
Clinics in Knysna and Geoge subdistricts are all open and will resume normal hours. George Hospital remains without Telkom lines – please use 071 225 7392 until further notice.
