GEORGE NEWS & VIDEO - Two local firefighters sustained minor injuries when their truck overturned on the corner of York and Discovery streets while they were responding to a call-out of a residential fire in Bos en Dal on Wednesday afternoon, 13 July.
The firefighters were on their way from Thembalethu to the base in the CBD when they received the call.
According to Ntobeko Mangqwengqwe, senior communications officer at George Municipality, three fire engines responded to the call.
"On their way there, one of the fire engines was involved in an accident and it overturned. The other two engines continued responding to the house fire. The two firefighters involved in the accident were treated on the scene and then transported to Mediclinic George. They were discharged later that same day," he said.

Damaged fire engine
Mangqwengqwe confirmed that the damage to the fire engine is still being deter-mined since complicated mechanical components need to be evaluated and said the cause of the accident could not be confirmed yet.
"The cause of the vehicle to overturn is also under investigation and the municipality would therefore not pre-empt the outcome of the investigation. We request the public to also refrain from speculation and allow the investigation to provide the facts.
"The fire department said it was grateful that our staff members survived the incident with only minor injuries and are expected to return to work shortly. We would like to thank the public for the support and kind words and well wishes," he said.
